About Me
I love being a therapist. It's a privilege to walk along side people as they heal and grow and there is always something new to learn in this field. My interest in social justice, community building and in supporting people in processing personal issues eventually led me to a career in social work.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I earned my Masters degree at Portland State University'sGraduate School of Social Work. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa where I studied cultural anthropology and women's studies. I do my best to operate from an trauma-informed, anti-oppression, social justice orientation and draw from Family Systems theory, Control Mastery Theory (psychodynamic), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocess) and IFS (Internal Family Systems). I have completed several trainings with Postpartum Support International (PSI) and continue my education in this area. I am have completed basic training in EMDR and continue to engage in regular continuing education in EMDR and IFS. These modalities work well together to improve insight and decrease trauma symptoms.
I only work with adults individually at this time. I have been employed in the arena of social work since 2001. I have experience working with people from a variety of backgrounds with many different kinds of experiences. I have worked in community mental health organizations, non-profits for children and families, homeless centers, women's programs, and queer organizations. I have extensive experience helping people who have experienced sexual abuse and interpersonal trauma.
Outside of my role as therapist I enjoy gardening, listening to books on tape and podcasts, community building in my neighborhood and larger community through things like mutual aid, and being in nature and doing outside activities with friends, family and my dog.
